Bendoo Plug, Ballintoy (09022380) - County Antrim
The Bendoo Plug is a dolerite mass which was formed when hot magma spilled out from under the earth's crust, rather like a mini volcano. When the magma cooled and hardened it became this dark, domed plug which you can see on the right hand side of this photograph. It has a diameter of roughly 350m, noticeably higher than the land around it. Sheep Island and then Rathlin Island can be seen in the distance.
