East Light, Rathlin Island (08091616)

East Light, Rathlin Island (08091616) - County Antrim
Rathlin Island is the most northerly inhabited island off the Irish coast. The main port of the island is in Church Bay where frequent sailings to Ballycastle depart. The island is a Special Area of Conservation and is home to one of the largest populations of seabirds in Ireland. The birds are best viewed during the nesting season from the western lighthouse at Kebble. The island is also the home of the cave where Robert the Bruce is said to have hidden and regained his strength before battle. Rathlin was also the scene of the world's first commercial wireless telegraphy link. This was established by employees of Guglielmo Marconi between the East Lighthouse of Rathlin to Kenmara House in Ballycastle on 6 July 1898.
